My name is Alison LaCroix and last year my husband, John, and I decided to open our home to a stranger who happened to be homeless. During the 1 year that Earl lived with our family, he not only became a friend, but also a part of our family.
When COVID-19 hit, Earl made the choice to move out of our home for the safety and health of our family. He chose to move back into his car where he has been living since mid March.
Even though we gave Earl a place to call home for 1 year, we are looking to find ways to continue to help him.
Earl is in need of a camper trailer to make living on the road easier and more livable. He works for DoorDash and would be able to continue to work for them while on the road anywhere in the country. Earl plans on going wherever God takes him. He enjoys helping others, even though he may not have much to offer. People with little to their name but still find a way to help others and "pay it forward" are the rare gems in this world. Earl has a huge heart and is the kindest person one could ever hope to meet.
Earl just needs a break in life. The whole situation of him becoming homeless started with him having a random medical mishap that landed him in the hospital for a length of time. During that time frame he lost his job, lost his apartment, and lost his money due to all of the medical bills. He had a job at the time that did not provide medical insurance. He had no family to help him, so he was truly on his own. 2 years later he found the church we go to, found God, and was connected with us.
His story makes me think "what if all it takes is for 1 moment in our lives that changes everything?" That moment can be either good or bad, but we don't know the reason why or the outcome until we make to the other side of the situation and see the light.
His plan is to be mobile by the end of November, before winter arrives.
Thank you for taking the time to read a part of our story and we pray for blessings upon your day.
