Hi my name is Sergio Montes. I am a Colombianamerican musician and artist, and truly believe in the healing power of the arts, and how arts education steers young rural Colombians away from the on going civil conflict that has ravished the Colombian mountain side for decades. After graduating from Furman University '11, I came to Restrepo, Valle del Cauca, Colombia and founded an arts school non profit FUNDACION ESCUELA DE ARTES DE RESTREPO and have first handedly seen the transformative power of the arts with  over 90% of our students going on to institutions of higher learning.

This year marks the 4th Arts Festival, Noches de Calima IV, which we celebrate in order to showcase local talent, but more importantly, motivate young artists and promote their expressions. Inclusion is vital for creating communities of peace and we always count on the participation of both indigenous tribes, the afropacific ethnicity, especial needs people, as well as the public schools that are found in Restrepo.

Our arts festival needs funding for 5 arts scholarships awarded to the best: Painter, Musician, Dance Group, Poet, and Photographer of 2021.

Hola mi nombre es Sergio Montes. Soy un músico y artista colombiano-estadounidense, y realmente creo en el poder curativo de las artes y en cómo la educación artística aleja a los jóvenes de las zonas rurales colombianas del conflicto civil que ha asolado las montañas colombianas durante décadas. Después de graduarme de la Universidad Furman '11, vine a Restrepo, Valle del Cauca, Colombia y fundé una escuela de arte sin fines de lucro FUNDACION ESCUELA DE ARTES DE RESTREPO y he visto el poder transformador de las artes con más del 90% de nuestros estudiantes asistiendo a instituciones de educación superior. Este año se celebra el 4o Festival de las Artes, Noches de Calima IV, que celebramos con el fin de mostrar el talento local, pero lo más importante, motivar a los artistas jóvenes y promover sus expresiones. La inclusión es vital para la creación de comunidades de paz y siempre contamos con la participación tanto de las tribus indígenas, la etnia afropacífica, las personas con necesidades especiales, asi como las escuelas públicas que se encuentran en Restrepo. Nuestro festival de arte necesita fondos para 5 becas de arte otorgadas a los mejores: pintor, músico, grupo de danza, poeta y fotógrafo de 2021. ¡Muchas gracias por su contribución!
