Lahaina artists Rita and Larry fire recovery fund
Donation protected
Our dear friends Rita, Larry, Camille and Calder LaValle have lost everything in the wildfires that swept through Lahaina. Fortunately, they were able to get out with their lives, and two cats, but have suffered unimaginable losses, and face an immediate future with great uncertainty. Living a simple life on the island of Maui and creating art was their dream. They lived off of the income generated by the selling the works that they created, this was their only source of income. In the early morning hours of August 9, the humble life that they spent years building was wiped out in minutes by the fire that swept through Lahaina. Rita was in the process of creating a gallery show slated to open in Japan this November. The destruction of their collective lives works can never be duplicated or replaced and the loss is just heartbreaking. A lifetime of family memories was reduced to cinders; journals filled with words of the past, a cherished ukulele, and guitars filled with sentiment are gone. We are thankful for the fact that they will be able to begin again, but they need an enormous amount of help and support. The Lahaina wildfires have left them physically, emotionally and financially devastated. The proceeds of this GoFundMe will go towards the very basics; housing, living expenses, food clothing and will help to build their new lives from scratch. Any amount given will be greatly appreciated, and the LaValle family would be eternally grateful for your help!
