My name is Nydia Simone, and I need your help.
Rooted in my Geechee-Panamanian heritage and raised in New York City, I am a cultural archivist, storyteller, filmmaker, writer, and pastry chef, who is deeply passionate about Black nuanced history.

In 2017, I founded Blactina Media, a platform dedicated to amplifying Afrolatinx and Caribbean narratives in media and art, where I use film, writing, and culinary arts to preserve and celebrate these vital stories.
While my work has been celebrated by The New York Times, Forbes, and Oprah Magazine, right now I’m fighting just to stay housed and cover my basic needs.

Trump's budget cuts devastated Arts & Culture funding, which once provided me with stable work, and now I’ve been struggling with financial instability and a lack of support.

Your support would allow me a bridge to move from the financial instability that I am dealing with now, to a place where my needs can be met as I create what's next in my career.
Your contribution isn’t just about helping me survive, it’s also about empowering a storyteller whose life is dedicated to centering marginalized voices, preserving Afrolatinx and Caribbean histories, and celebrating the power, magic and beauty of our cultures.

Please donate if you are able, share my fundraiser if you are willing, and reach out to me via IG and Tik Tok @blactina if you know of any great opportunities, resources, or have any connections that might benefit my career as a filmmaker, content creator, educator, culture worker, & creative entrepreneur.
Thank you so much!
