Heyyy, Christine here (she/her/we).. I’m a Black femme artist committed to and interested in continuing legacies of resistance, love, equity and care.. and I intend to collaborate with 15(ish) Black art makers in Richmond, VA. Including dancers, musicians, photographers, videographers, designers, and doulas to make a thing come to life.
I’m birthing a docu-film that archives my official re-emergence into my artistic practice after the arts industry shutdown of 2020.
On March 6-8, 2020 I premiered a solo work in New York and then boom! Nationwide Quarantine. Artistic Momentum non-existent.. a whole year and 2 months later, and after swallowing many hard pills, I’m ready to share and explore again.
The archival docu-film #processproject (I guess is what I’m calling it?) will include dancing, original music, and all my learnings, feelings, thoughts and wisdoms about everything that comes up and has come up since March 2020; in addition to my amazing colleagues/community who nurture and shape me.
Even though I am grateful to have received a grant and a residency that has fueled me to do this... I can’t just get my coin/momentum and not spread the wealth. So I’m raising (an extremely modest) $2020+ in honor of emerging from my 2020 cocoon to make things again! But mainly, and most importantly, to support paying my people whom are incredible and about to help me make a dope thing.
To be transparent, Here is what your donation contributes to:
$500- 10 hrs of musical collaboration ($45-50/hr, improvisational)
$600- matching my grant pay for my main movement collaborator
$500- pay myself for admin work + editing + writing + facilitating + hiring process doulas
(Also, ~1/4 of my admin pay goes to Jasmine Leeward (IG: @jasmineleeward_) and fundraising for her documentary Change The Game (cashapp-$changethegamedoc).Thank you Jas for being amazing and inspiring me to share my own brilliance through this medium. )
$50- SD cards
$70- hospitality (including parking reimbursements, refreshments, etc)
$150- to photography
$150- costuming/designer consult
Insight:
-if < $2020, funds will go to collaborators first, Jasmine’s $changethegamedoc, then myself
-if =$2020, funds will fulfill basic needs
-if >$2020, I will reimburse myself for misc purchases related to the project, and give excess to my main movement collaborator, jas/$changethegamedoc, and save for the next phase of this project.
-working environment: an honest, easeful, fun and loving improvisational working space. Consent centric process with care and humanity as the utmost priority (2 hr lunch breaks, refreshments & nourishment support, and open dialogues about our expectations as contributors to this process.
