Artist residency in Alice Springs
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Suzy.
I am an interdisciplinary artist based in Brisbane. Since 2007, I have been selected for several prestigious national art awards, including the Paul Guest Prize, the Portia Geach Memorial Award, and most recent Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing in 2016. I'm also co-founder of The Breakfast Club Diaries , a community based arts project raising $15,312.66 with all proceeds to The Fred Hollows Foundation. That's restoring eyesight to over 660 adults and children worldwide!
Currently enrolled in a Doctor of Visual Arts (DVA) at Queensland College of Art (QCA), I am the lucky recipient of a Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship. Through practice led research, I am responding to the current ecological crisis facing humanity due to the environmental destructivenss of western culture. Thus, I am currently exploring ways that sculptural objects created from 'salvaged material' might engage with cross-cultural dialogue which offers another way of living within 'nature' in Australian culture.

This is where I need your help...
The Curatorial Committee of Watch This Space located in Alice Springs has offered me a four-week residency placement and a three-week exhibition in their 2017 Creative Program from 1st July until 19th August.
I am seeking to raise $2000 to help with costs associated with resources, travel and accommodation.

Outcomes of the residency and exhibition include:
• Expanding industry networks by observing and engaging with community members living within the inner and outer regions of Alice Springs
• Fast tracking my arts based research from knowledge gained through new, personal, direct and transformational experiences offered by the inspirational and unique environment which is Alice Springs
• Propelling my professional career with the development of artistic skills gained directly from Watch This Space, which is the only experimental art space in Central Australia that encourages, challenges and nurtures contemporary art practice
• Engaging with and building upon the intersecting and sharing of different creative processes with Watch This Space staff and other members within the required framework of practice-led based research, curatorial and exhibition practice
• Providing me with the knowledge and skills to go further into my field of research into terms of seeking cross-cultural dialogue that aim to promote and mobilise different perspectives toward ecological thought in Australian culture
Thanks for your support. x
