Hi! We're Alex and Sophie. We are two artists who met while attending George Brown Theatre School and we are the creators of a new show called Mayfair Monday!
As emerging artists, we are constantly being told we need to create our own work in order to be seen – well, we're doing it! We've gone ahead and created an immersive variety show that will bring our audience back in time to 1929 in a cabaret setting. The show will premiere on Monday May 6 at Reid's Distillery in Toronto and run for three Mondays in May – May 6, May 13, and May 27. Our show features 8 emerging artists who have all come up with acts designed to dazzle and entertain.
The show is on Mondays which is traditionally a dark day in theatre (meaning no other theatre shows are happening...except ours!) This will allow for people in the industry who are working on other shows to come and see us.
We are asking for donations in order to pay our 8 performers, our choreographer, and our accompanist – all of whom are young, emerging artists who have recently graduated from renown theatre programs.
We're creating this show because we're big fans of the cabaret and vaudeville era, and love the idea of a show meant to cheer people up and escape their everyday lives.
This show is also important to us because in order to have a career in theatre, you need to be seen. In order to be seen, you need to be in shows and people in the industry need to be able to see your work. Not only are we creating Mayfair Monday because we want our audience to have a good time, but it's essential to our careers as theatre artists to help us grow and to book more work.
We are lucky enough to have in-kind venue support from Reid's Distillery, and free spaces to rehearse.
The $5050 is the cost to pay our 8 performers, our choreographer, and our accompanist for their time spent rehearsing, and for our 3-show run in May.
Thank you so much for considering donating. It really means a lot to us!
