ENGLISH:
For the past five years, Vicenta—a beloved artisan and core member of our PotHead family—has been fighting a confusing and painful health battle. If you’ve ever received a PotHead planter painted with love and soul, there’s a good chance Vicenta had a hand in it. She’s been part of our team for over six years, painting and carefully packing hundreds of pieces that have traveled across the world to our customers. Today, she and her family need your help.
Her journey began with breathing problems and ovarian cysts. In search of answers, her family took her to specialists across several cities in central Mexico—Celaya, Querétaro, and Guanajuato. Each doctor gave a different diagnosis, often prescribing medications without clarity or results.
She began gaining weight unexpectedly and experiencing pain below her ribs. Doctors then told her she had 3 to 4 stones in her gallbladder, and that one had entered her common bile duct—posing a serious risk to her pancreas. A specialist in Celaya initially planned a non-invasive treatment, but when they believed one stone had passed while she was at home, they quickly moved forward with gallbladder removal surgery.
After three months of recovery, her symptoms returned—her skin, eyes, and stool turned yellow again. A new doctor in Querétaro reviewed her case and told her there may have never been any stones at all, and that the surgery might have been unnecessary. Now, the doctors are concerned that she may have a malignant tumor. She will undergo more testing this Thursday.
Vicenta is the mother of three and grandmother of two. Her entire family works as artisans, selling their handmade pieces in the local artisan market.
Her medical costs have been overwhelming: repeated doctor visits, medications, blood tests, X-rays, and travel from San Miguel de Allende to out-of-town clinics. On top of that, she hasn’t been able to work during much of this time, making things even harder for her and her family.
Vicenta has brought life, color, and soul to so many of the pieces you’ve received. Now we’re asking our community—the people who have supported our work over the years—to come together and support her. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. Even sharing this campaign helps more than you know.
Thank you for helping us take care of someone who has given so much.
