WHO AM I?

My name is Arthur Zulu, born and raised in Lusaka, Zambia. I grew up from a family of 4. My parents worked hard to provide me and my siblings the best life they possibly could and I am forever grateful to them. One thing they always asked for in return was that we strive for excellence in the classroom and every aspect of our lives. "Education is a tool to independence", my dad would always say. Sports was a major influence on my life as a child, especially soccer. I always dreamt of one day representing my country on the big stage. But unfortunately things didn't work out as I had hoped . I remember my brother watching the Bulls vs Utah finals game 5 also known as "The Flu Game" and seeing Michael Jordan hit his famous last shot. That was how I fell in love with the game of basketball. In a soccer loving country it wasn't easy, but through my faith in God, perseverance and hard work I was able to defy the odds.

MY JOURNEY

In 2002 I was selected to represent my country Zambia at the first NBA Africa Basketball without Borders camp in Johannesburg South Africa, where I was blessed to attain a full basketball scholarship to Sam Houston State University via Jacksonville Baptist College where I went for 2 years. I graduated with an undergraduate degree in General Business studies. I was in the process of securing a contract to play professional basketball in Europe but unfortunately I tore my achilles. Shortly before that happened. I married the woman of my dreams and started a family. My focus and goals shifted and I decided to pursue an MBA in Business Administration. I now play semi pro in the city of Houston and work in public accounting as a project coordinator for RSM.

PURPOSE

The Arthur Zulu Basketball Camp, in conjunction with the A2Z Basketball Academy a non-profit in Zambia is a long-term project aiming to develop the game of basketball and empower the youth through the sport of Basketball. The camp is the first of it's kind and will take place in the summer of 2021 in my home town of Lusaka. Our mission is to increase awareness of HIV and mental health, as well as promote physical and emotional fitness through life-skills and sports. In direct collaboration with the Youth Basketball foundation(YBF) also a non-profit organization in Zambia, the Arthur Zulu Basketball camp aims to identify the best prospects in the country with the potential to play at the high school or Collegiate levels in the US

The 5-day camp will host the top 50 male and female student athletes and also serve as a very high level coaching clinic involving young dynamic coaches. Please help us achieve our fundraising goal. Through our community involvement we work closely with parents, schools and the community to provide our youth with the tools they need to lead a positive life as young adults. We also offer mentoring to our youth in the community to assist with many challenges they are faced with.

Each member of our team has made a commitment to themselves, their immediate and extended families, coaches and teammates. The sacrifice and dedication expected from each player goes beyond the basketball Court. Hard work in the classroom is just as paramount as their work on the court.

We are making strides in our fundraising efforts and will really appreciate all the help we can get from the community and businesses to assist with the ongoing youth basketball foundation. This will assist with the cost of uniforms, shoes and basketball equipment. Please help us achieve our fundraising goal by making a donation to support our program.
