UPDATED: Memorial for Arthur Grant
Donation protected
Sunday, October 16, 2022 (UPDATED)
It is with great sadness and the heaviest of hearts I share the news of Arthur's passing this morning, with his loving wife and two sons by his side.
Arthur was (just to list a few of his qualities) an amazing friend; he was fun and goofy, a talented craftsmen with the mechanical expertise to diagnose and fix almost any malfunction. Arthur was reliable, kind, thoughtful and considerate. He had a passion for life, and when he got an idea in his head, he ran with it, always making the routine more exciting and enjoyable. He was a talented diver - who once competed on the national level at the age of 17. He was exceptionally strong and was never afraid of hard work. He was full of life and had a sunny disposition. He rarely got discouraged and remained upbeat even in the toughest of times.
Arthur's greatest source of pride is his sons. They have turned out to be respectful, helpful, strong, loving and caring, just like Arthur.
And finally, his greatest love, his best-friend, his true companion, Elizabeth (his wife of 28 years), has been left with a gaping hole in her heart. The depth of her loss is unimaginable, but her strength and love of those around her will help her to process this tragedy. I would again like to ask everyone to find it in your hearts to please consider an additional donation. His final expenses will be extensive as Beth, Cameron and Scotty want to respect his wishes to be brought "home." (The journey from CT to MA will be costly)
His loss will be felt deeply by all who knew and loved him. He leaves this earth with a lasting legacy of love and compassion to a level that only few people attain. Arthur was noble, loyal and unforgettable; he set the bar high for how to be a good human; he lived his life with purpose, and his absence will be notable. Please consider, and thank you.
Update from 10/07
Let me begin by acknowledging my (our) most sincere gratitude for the overwhelming generosity already expressed this past week - Thank you!
The greatest gift in life is the gift of friendship, and anyone lucky enough to call Arthur a friend would agree; Arthur always gives 100% to everyone who knows him.
Over the last few days, Arthur has endured several scans and seen a few doctors.
His cancer has spread and is now at an advanced stage. He will begin a new course of treatment which includes chemotherapy. Additionally, the doctors will be discussing further treatment options. But no matter the medical recommendation, Arthur will be in for the fight of his life.
The purpose of this update is two-fold:
- To share this dire news
- To ask for everyone's continued support - both by donating and sharing - again.
I want to ask everyone - those who have so generously already donated and those who shared this to please consider a second donation - no matter the size - it all helps and makes a difference, and please share it!
Arthur will be out of work indefinitely as he wages this fight. And as he no longer has any accrued time, he is responsible for paying his portion of their health insurance out of pocket (since he is not earning a paycheck). He NEEDS his health insurance. Please continue to help in any way you are able. Thank you

Original Intro:
Anyone who has met Arthur Grant knows he is the epitome of selflessness. Arthur is always the first to show up in times of need. Those lucky enough to know him personally have come to appreciate his kindness, humor and loyalty.
Never one to ask for help himself, I have set up this Go-Fund Me on his behalf as Arthur wages a very serious fight with cancer, kidney failure and a multitude of complications that are increasing in numbers and severity.
DIAGNOSIS AND EARLY TREATMENT
In early May 2021, Arthur was diagnosed with early-stage bladder cancer and endured six months of immunotherapy
PROGRESSION
A biopsy in November 2021 confirmed the disease was not responding to the immunotherapy, and his cancer had progressed to stage IIIB; he was promptly scheduled for chemotherapy and surgery to remove his bladder (the location of cancer).
DECLINING HEALTH (2022)
January: he began chemotherapy.
April: he underwent surgery to remove his bladder.
June: briefly returned to work for the first time since January.
August: sought relief from pain caused by a kidney blockage; ended up spending 9 days in the hospital being treated for sepsis; kidney blockage was unresolved
September: hospitalized for kidney failure (due to the unresolved kidney blockage; early stage bi-lateral kidney failure)
Arthur has worked since he was 12 (contributing to his family of 8; Arthur has five younger siblings).
He worked his way through college, earning his undergraduate degree from Bridgewater State (College ) University.
He is the loving husband to Elizabeth, the love of his life for the last 38 years, and they have raised two amazing young men, Cameron and Scotty.
The decline in Arthur is very obvious to those close to him. He has never known a world where he wasn't the fixer until now. The uncertainty of what awaits him with the dawn of each new day is further complicated by the financial burden this crisis has created.
Please consider donating to this incredibly deserving man and his family as they continue to battle for his survival and their future. Thank you for taking the time to read through this request.
