Arthur Evans

Arthur F. Evans, Jr. was born on July 16, 1939. Some of you knew him as Art, Artie, Dad, Grandpop and GGpop. At Rohm & Haas where he worked until he medically retired, he was known as Chooch. And, due to his very poor handwriting, he received a subscription in his Klingon name: Anthva F Evans, Va!

Over the years, he was an avid collector of everything and anything -- and once he started a collection he became an expert on every subject. There were trains, Hess Trucks, coins, antique bottles, anything Bing Crosby, movie posters, the music of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s and not to be forgotten The Art Evans VHS video vault. He had to have a copy of every movie that came out on VHS. Later, each title was typed to become our personal video library directory.

The best thing he ever collected was the love of his life, Catherine (nee Lubatty). They met on a blind date New Year’s Eve, 1957. He promptly told her she would never see him again. He soon discovered that he could not be without her. They eloped to Elkton, Maryland and later had a small Church ceremony. They were blessed to celebrate 63 years this past October – this was not a small feat since Art was not the easiest person to live with at times. Needless to say, Catherine is a living saint.

He is survived by Cathy and her husband, Guy; Lisa and her husband Rob, and Art and his wife, Ruthann. But, let’s be real, the real lights of his life were his grandchildren: Zachary Evans (Jennifer), Jacob Evans and Lizzie Harris and great-grandson, Daniel.

We would like to think he was greeted in Heaven by his parents, his brother, my grandparents and Aunt DeeDee and Uncle Larry. We hope a very loud Pinochle game is going on the men are all arguing about what cards were played.

The memorial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, we hope you will consider donating to the medical and funeral costs that have incurred. Our sincere thank you for your consideration.
