Arthur and Joanna Holland (KY flood victims)

Donation protected
On July 28, torrential flash floods killed 37 people in eastern Kentucky, washed away homes, and devastated many Appalachian communities. Gov. Andy Beshear said rescue crews are searching for an unknown number of others. Knott County suffered the largest death toll: fourteen people were killed, including four young siblings.

My brother and sister-in-law Joanna Holland lived on one of the deadliest roads in Knott County. To see Arthur tell the story, go to the 1:30 minute mark in this national news video:

When he woke up late Wednesday night to take out his dog, he was shocked to step out into the rapidly rising water. He immediately woke his wife, but-within minutes-they watched helplessly as their home was yanked completely off its foundation and floated away. Arthur was only able to save his wife, his dogs, and the shorts he was wearing. Eleven of his neighbors died.

Like many people in the area, they did not have flood insurance - which puts Arthur and Joanna in a devastating financial situation.

When a national news channel reported on the damage, my brother Arthur said, “I fell on my knees and cried. It’s all I could do.” “We were born with nothing. When we leave this world, we’re not going to have anything,” he said. “Maybe it’s time for me to leave this world? I don’t know.”

I started this fundraiser to be used for a down payment on a home, clothing, and other necessities. Arthur’s life is important, and I’m very thankful the lives of my family were spared. Thank you for anything you can give.
