For the love of ART…
“Art is what feelings look like”
“Be the change you want to see in the world.” My goal in starting this business is to achieve that change; to make a difference in the lives of others through art, connection and music.
I am starting a mobile “art workshop” for seniors, individuals who suffer from memory disorders, such as Alzheimer’s and hospice patients.
My family has been touched by Alzheimer’s, a beloved uncle, making this cause one near and dear to my heart.
After being inspired and touched by the documentary, Alive Inside, where individuals with Alzheimer’s became aware of their surroundings, communicated, and became “alive” through the medium of music, I began to think about the impacts of art and creativity on each of us.
My mission is to integrate art and music into a mobile art workshop and watch the magic unfold.
In a recent workshop I experienced the impact art, connection and music can have in action. I witnessed patients recall memories of their youth, become alive. A woman who was distraught calmed when I placed an art tool in her hand, we painted hand in hand, her face lit with joy. She smiled and laughed. A husband and wife connected through painting; the wife who has dementia painted a picture and when she finished, the husband drew a picture of their home and they began to share stories of the life they had created together. These experiences are powerful, humbling, and heartfelt.
I believe through art, love, connection and music we become alive. We are able to unlock the past, present and future within us. All of us have a creative side and, given the opportunity to create, can be liberated from our current reality or even a disease that is eating at our mind and body.
Being a part of such a moving experience has motivated me to continue my passion and share art, love and music with others.
It is a sad reality that many facilities do not have the funding to provide for creative assistance or music technology and that many of the patients in these facilities do not have many visitors. My goal is to bring them a little slice of light and love through this program.
You can make a difference right now, today, right this moment. As little as one dollar launches the mobile art workshop! Your gift today makes possible the power of a one-on-one connection with a genuinely needful person through art. Together we can be the change needed in just one person’s life. Your contributions will assist in the purchase of art supplies and music devices allowing me to share this passion of art. Funding will also contribute to the successful management of my non-profit and outreach for the workshops.
Please follow my Facebook page (Artandscars) to see the difference we are making in the lives of others, the difference you have helped create.
Thank you for your generosity,
Much love,
Nycole Fry
