Hi! I am Hannah. I am the 7th of 11 children, was raised on a farm, and was homeschooled until 7th grade. Because of my home school background in such a large family, I love and appreciate every opportunity I have in public school. I play volleyball and manage wrestling, sing in competition choir, am active in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, and am a member of the National Honor Society. I work very hard to get good grades and maintain a 3.75 GPA.
Since I was very young I have alternated between wanting to be a policewoman or a lawyer when I grow up. Either profession will allow me to help those who need someone to speak for them, to protect them, and to advocate for them. The law fascinates me and it is where my heart is.
This summer I have been invited to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum for Law and Crime Scene Investigation. Over 11 days in Washington D.C. I will participate in an in-depth exploration of the judicial process. We will start with the discovery of a crime, the collection and processing of evidence, preparation for taking the case to court, and then an actual courtroom simulation. We will learn from an FBI profiler, examine a Supreme Court case, and eventually assume the role of a justice or attorney and argue a position or render a decision. This is an excellent opportunity to explore all aspects of a career in law and help me determine whether I want to be a lawyer or a police officer.
In our free time we will tour the Smithsonian Institutes, several of our Presidential memorials and honor our nation's heroes at Arlington National Cemetery, The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the different war memorials. Each day, we will be busy from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. as we try to learn as much as we can in such a short time.
The cost of the program is $2995, which includes lodging and two meals per day. My airfare is $458 because I have to arrive and depart from a certain airport during a small window of time. This means the minimum amount I need for this trip is $3453. If I want to eat lunch and have any spending money, I will need a little more.
Through fundraising sales, my savings, doing odd jobs for neighbors, my mom's contribution, and a donation from my aunt, I have already raised $2000. I am asking for your help to send me on a trip that could determine my future career path. Any assistance, no matter how small, will make a huge difference to me.
