Art 4 Change: Haiti Volunteering

In 2013 I went to Haiti to volunteer at the Sai Baba Centre which provides nutritious meals to over 2000 children living in camps in and around Port-au-Prince. When it was time for me to leave after a month - I knew I would one day return to volunteer again.

So when I was elected as UAL ACS President (University of the Arts London African Caribbean Society) in 2014-2015, I took up the opportunity to fundraise for ACS to volunteer in Haiti this summer! We successfully raised £650 of which £267 was sent to the centre in December to organise a festive party for the children (click link for pics http://wp.me/p53GGa-Wm)

Unfortunately we are still a long way to go with our fundraising, despite our many efforts to raise money at our events. Thank you to everyone who has helped by donating. Please continue to donate so we can make this volunteering trip possible.

About our volunteering trip:
We'll be organising arts and crafts workshops for children living in camps in and around Port-au-Prince. Many of these children do not attend school. We aim to continue to fundraise towards their school fees by printing their art works onto merchandise that can be sold.
We'll also be making documentary about the experience which will be posted online and on Facebook so you can be part of the journey from the beginning!

UPDATE Oct 2015: I used my student loan to by a ticket to go to Haiti during the summer for 3week! I actually facilitated the workshops proposed! THANK YOU ALL for the support. The money being raised is to fund school fees of as many of the children (45) possible part of the 2 week workshops held in summer 2015!
This campaign will end on 1st July 2016! Pls help us reach our online goal of £750 before then!

I no longer run UAL ACS however I'm using my platforms to actively campaign!

UPDATE Sept 2016: Money was sent to Haiti c/o Shanti Paudel, co-ordinator of the Sai Baba Centre who supports the food programmes for homeless children in PAP! 2000 dollars was sent, and we received an additon 500 dollars from an annoymous donor making the total 2500 dollars for 21 childrens shool fees, uniform and books for the year!

UPDATE Oct 2016: Hurricane Matther has cause devastation in Haiti, with certain parts such as Jeremie worst hit. Our children from the workshops are safe and have beem relocted with thier families to new camps, however they aren't able to attend school and are still in desperate need of help for basic living items!

Due to this we are re-opening our campaign to support the children and their families. Please donate whatever you can. The money will be sent via Western Union to Haiti to the Sai Baba Centre in Port-au-Prince (PAP)
