From My Perspective
Mission Statement:
From My Perspective is an inclusive art initiative that strives to provide a welcoming, supportive environment for people with disabilities to creatively express themselves and show the world their perspective.
About Us:
Hi, my name is Cait and I am a teacher in NJ. I have my masters degree in special education from The College of New Jersey. In addition, I have an undergraduate degree in visual arts. It has been my dream to combine these two passions and create an art studio for people with disabilities. During my senior year of college, 2018, I did an independent study to lay the foundation of this non-profit and begin to develop the classes that would be offered. Still, it was just an idea and a dream for the future. Fast forward to 2020 and the world being shut down due to COVID-19. I thought this would be the perfect time to focus on the project and finally get it off the ground! I reached out to my friend, Luke, for help. He has always had a passion for working with people with disabilities, all the way back to when we were in high school together volunteering at a local day-hab for adults with disabilities. Whether through the Special Olympics club during his time at Villanova or as a support-coordinator after college, he has maintained a drive to support people with disabilities on their journey to lead independent and fulfilling lives. Because of this, and his degree in Economics, which allows him to have a better understanding of the business side of things, I couldn’t think of a better person to start this art studio with!
What Now:
We have plans to open the studio in Philadelphia. We are currently in the beginning stages of development, filing paperwork and applying for grants, but want to get things moving as quickly as possible once we have the funding. We want to thank you tremendously for any support that you are able to provide, not only from us, but also a thank you from the eventual participants at our studio! With your help we are one step closer to being able to open and create a creative space for them to share their perspective with the world!
