Art Shop Safar

Hello all former Hogans, friends and family of our beloved art shop Safar. Just before the 2018 OPWALL season began, Safar came down with an ear infection that quickly worsened as the season progressed. After being seen by a specialist at the hospital in Bau Bau, it has been determined that the infection has managed to make its way into one of the bones of his skull and has begun to erode the bone itself (the only barrier between the infection and his brain). Bone infections are difficult, if not impossible, to treat with antibiotics and without an operation to completely clear the infection from the bone, he’s at risk of a fatal systemic infection. For the majority of the season Safar has been too sick to paint and make gifts. As many of you know, the majority of their yearly income is made during the OPWALL season. Therefore, Safar and his family are in dire need of financial support for costs related to the operation, travel to and from Makassar hospital, and living costs during his recovery phase. At the end of this month he and his wife will travel to Makassar for the procedure and they will need to stay there for at least 2 weeks.

I am hoping that together, those of us who care about Safar and his family, can join together to raise some funds quickly to enable Safar to get the treatment that he needs before it is too late for him.  Lack of access to adequate health care is a big problem in Indonesia, and his wife is understandably very worried about how they are going to afford to get Safar the care that he needs. A small amount of help from each of us will help this family in a big way.
