Inspired by the care and support provided by both Macmillan and Dementia UK, Standard Life's Marketing Change department presents: The Art of Caring.

Our story

In April 2019, Standard Life’s Marketing Change department visited the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh to sample the selfless effort and commitment of Macmillan Cancer Support staff and volunteers. Determined to show our gratitude to a local service which has, and could benefit us all, both now and in the future, the team decided to make a pledge.

Hidden within the grounds of the Western General Hospital is a small garden dedicated, but not exclusive to, people who require support from Macmillan. Despite its tired and weathered appearance, the garden proves to be extremely popular with both hospital residents and effected families. The garden provides a space for reflection, peace and a chance to reconnect with nature. The garden is invaluable to Macmillan and the hospital, and it needs our help.

With our pledge in mind, this experience also reminded us of an equally important support network which is prominent throughout Standard Life Aberdeen. Dementia UK was selected as our company-wide charity partner for 2019. Supporting those affected by Dementia in the UK, the charity offers a host of services such as awareness sessions to help people understand diagnosis and an advice helpline.

Both charities care for us at our time of need. Now, we want to give something back.

Our aim

The Art of Caring will be hosting two special online events. 100% of the proceeds from both events will be donated equally between Macmillan Cancer Support and Dementia UK. The share raised for Macmillan will be invested in renovating the garden at the Western General Hospital, creating a space of comfort and tranquillity for those who need it most. The other half will be added to our annual company-wide donation to Dementia UK.

How to help us reach our goal

Standard Life Aberdeen group employees have the chance to take part in our exclusive online auction and prize draw. Please visit www.theartofcaring.co.uk for more information on how to enter.  If you've arrived at this page ready to make your minimum donation as part of the prize draw, please ensure you provide your full name and internal Standard Life Aberdeen group email address.

Unfortunately, the online auction and prize draw will only be available to Standard Life Aberdeen group employees. If you're not a Standard Life Aberdeen group employee, we'd still love to have your support, and all donations are welcome, however, you will not be eligible to enter the online auction or prize draw.

You can find full details of both our events and our fundraising effort by visiting www.theartofcaring.co.uk. Terms & conditions apply.
