Art, Love, & Resistance: Help Bring TWO SISTERS to the Stage
Donation protected
We—Monica Rose Slater, Ben Chau-Chiu, and Megan Soledad—are self-producing Two Sisters and a Piano by Pulitzer-winning Latinx playwright Nilo Cruz. Set in Havana in 1991, the play follows two sisters under house arrest—one a pianist, the other a writer—who use art as both refuge and resistance.
As emerging artists in the Bay Area, we are committed to uplifting BIPOC and queer voices by creating our own opportunities and sharing stories that resonate with our communities. Our production highlights the transformative power of art, featuring live music and heightened storytelling to immerse audiences in the sisters’ world.
To kick off this journey, we are hosting free/donation-based staged readings on March 15 at 7 PM and March 16 at 2 PM in the studio space of Oakland Theater Project. These readings will be an essential step toward our goal of mounting a full production in August (dates pending).
We are thrilled to have received a $5,000 Theater Bay Area CA$H grant to support this production, but we need additional funds to cover venue costs, design, and fair wages for our team.
Your generosity will help us bring this powerful story of resilience and love to life. Thank you for supporting independent theater and emerging artists!
