Hi! I'm Kihu, a furry artist living in Los Angeles.
I've worked as an artist in the community for over 12 years, and during that time have created a TON of work. All of my artwork is digital, so all I have to show for my years of work is data.
Unfortunately, my main hard drive for my work computer broke down a few months ago. After taking the drive in to a specialist, they informed me that the drive's firmware is the main issue, and that due to the rarity of identical drives (since manufacturers change specs on hard drives every 500 products or so) finding a "donor drive" to steal a circuit board from and transplant it into my drive will be difficult - and expensive.
This gofundme is to raise money to recover that data! Here are some really important points regarding the data recovery process, that I believe are crucial for me to discuss here for transparency and ethical reasons:
- The data recovery is NOT guaranteed. There is a chance that I may not recover any of the work sealed in the drive.
- Thankfully, the specialist has a "No data, no cost" policy - he has guaranteed that he will personally cover and refund the costs of his labor AND the cost of locating and purchasing the aforementioned "donor drive" if he is unsuccessful in recovering any data.
- The current price quote for the project is $800 to $2,000+. I have set the current fundraising goal for this project at $2,000, but I won't know the final amount until after I bring the drive in for a deeper recovery. The cost could go up - I will receive a quote before any work is done and that will allow me to decide if I would like to move forward with this fundraiser under its current goals, or refund everything and start a new fundraiser with a higher goal, if necessary.
- I can and will refund anything that is not spent on recovery. Thanks to the specialist only charging upon completion and gofundme's refund policy I will be able to spend ONLY what is needed, and refund the rest - including refunding everything if there is no success in the recovery. I will not remove any funds from my balance here until after the recovery is successful and I have my final bill so that the entirety of your donations remain 100% refundable.
- I will be as transparent as possible throughout the process! This includes sharing information on the recovery timeline, posting photos of my receipts, screenshots of refunds, etc! Any and everything I can to to ensure this is as above-board as possible.
Please know that this is a fundraiser ONLY and that no rewards through the gofundme platform are currently being offered.
