Help Bring the Spirit of Odin Teatret to Young Artists in India

Hi, I’m Prashant Tiwari.
I’m a theatre artist based in Mumbai, and for the past several years, I’ve been working at the intersection of performance and community — using theatre as a tool for expression, healing, and empowerment.

Through both my own creative journey and my work with children and young artists from marginalized backgrounds, I’ve seen how transformative theatre can be. In communities where theatre is disappearing, I’ve been working to keep it alive — not just as an art form, but as a vital space where stories are heard, confidence is built, and connection is restored.

Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to train in classical theatre — particularly Shakespeare — and explore powerful movement-based practices such as Suzuki, Viewpoints, Mask work, and Balinese dance. I’ve also engaged in the ancient Indian performance practice of Venuji’s Navarasa Sadhana — a rigorous emotional training system rooted in aesthetic philosophy. Together, these diverse lineages — Odin’s ensemble-based physical theatre and India’s embodied rasa tradition — are helping shape a performance language that is physical, rooted, and alive.

They form the foundation of my evolving artistic voice and the solo performance work I’m currently developing based on Hamlet.
This is not just a reinterpretation of Shakespeare — it’s a cross-cultural exploration of grief, doubt, action, and transformation.

A Rare Opportunity: Odin Teatret
I’ve been accepted into an advanced training program at Odin Teatret in Denmark — one of the most respected experimental theatre institutions in the world, founded by visionary director Eugenio Barba and deeply influenced by the radical work of Jerzy Grotowski.

Odin’s actor-centered, intercultural, physically rigorous approach has shaped generations of theatre-makers. It has long inspired my own practice — not just in method, but in spirit. This opportunity is more than a training — it is the next essential step in my evolution as an artist.

Why I Need Your Support
To attend this intensive program, I need to raise €1800 (₹1.80 Lakh / $2065) which covers:

€900 for tuition

€900 for travel expenses (international flights and local transport)

This training will directly impact the solo performances I’m developing and, more importantly, deepen the workshops and safe spaces I offer to children from underserved communities in India.

Your support won’t just help me grow — it will strengthen the lives of dozens of young people I teach through theatre.

If you’re able to contribute — or share this campaign with someone who might — I’d be deeply grateful. I’m also happy to share my official acceptance letter and further details about the program.

Giving Back
As a gesture of thanks, I’d love to offer a free workshop, performance, or talk when I return — to pass on what I’ve learned and keep the cycle of sharing alive.

If we exceed the goal, every additional rupee or euro will go toward organizing free theatre workshops for underprivileged children — to give them exposure to creative expression and a space to feel seen and heard.

This Isn’t Just About One Artist’s Journey
It’s about bringing the spirit of Odin Teatret to young artists in India — and planting seeds of creativity, courage, and connection in places where they are needed most.

Thank you for believing in the power of theatre — and in the lives it can change.

With deep gratitude,
Prashant Tiwari
