Hi everyone!
I'm Ama Posey (the artist and art educator behind Ama Posey Studios).
After 10 years of working firsthand with children and families, I recently launched an art school, in Chico California. This came after years of preparation and dreaming about creating a space for kids to explore and experience the healing powers of art.
As a single mom, I know what it feels like to want to give your child enriching, extracurricular opportunities but not be able to afford them— so with my background in art and art education, I began to make my own activities for my children and their friends. I got to see firsthand how Art has the power to transform a person's confidence despite their circumstances. That's a large reason why I created my art school at Ama Posey studios.
My goal is to serve all children, despite their economic circumstances – to serve children from all backgrounds, all socioeconomic levels, all abilities. I want to serve children whose parents might live paycheck to paycheck, children who are raised by single parents, children whose parents already have struggled enough, and the cost of enrichment activities shouldn’t be another burden to bear.
One thing I know for sure is that art heals. Art gives people permission to express their unique creativity, and in turn, creates more confident, healthy, innovative thinkers. As an artist myself, I know that Art teaches us that there’s beauty in struggle because it gives us an opportunity to turn our trials into triumphs.
Creativity is the hallmark of humanity, and accessing it through art can make us whole again. It's my goal to begin funding my art school through federal grants— however, as I’m getting started, I’m reaching out to my community and beyond for help. This fall we sponsored 10 students and their experiences were priceless and profound. And now, I’m inspired to go even bigger.
My goal is to fill HALF of the spots in my classes this spring semester with kids on scholarships. In order to do this, we need to raise $10,000. This lofty goal would send nearly 100 children to my art camps and art classes throughout the semester. Every penny of your generous donations give children an opportunity that could possibly change their lives. I will be updating my website and social media with photos of my classes and the projects that these beautiful children make along the way.
