Arson at The Ellis: Artists support fund

A week ago an arsonist set The Ellis Building on fire. An amazing neighbour noticed the smoke and saved our building from going completely up in flames. While the most severe fire damage was contained inside the back of the building, almost all studios suffered serious smoke and water damage. The makers whose studios were most affected had their contents almost completely destroyed.

We’ve been so touched by the outpouring of support that we’ve received from our community. With so many of you asking how you can help, we created this campaign as an opportunity to extend some financial support if you are able to. We understand that there may not be as much to go around these days, but small donations can help replace essential equipment and supplies that were lost. In an effort to be super transparent we want you to know that half the funds raised will go to the makers whose equipment and materials need replacing and half will be shared by everyone in order to assist with the necessary clean up due to smoke and water damage. All funds raised through this campaign will go to the artists, makers, and tenants who operate within the building, not The Ellis Building itself.

In the past, when our friends and community have found themselves in need, we come together to throw a party. Bands and DJs play, and we have a great time while money is raised for a worthy cause. For obvious reasons, that is just not something we can do these days. But! Once we make it through this pandemic, we would like to invite all of you to join us at The Ellis Building for a THANK YOU WE LOVE YOU! BBQ to express our gratitude for your support!
