Don protégé
Lisa Jones, our custodian at Menchville High School, lost her daughter Lashawan Hogans in a tragic car accident in Denbigh last night. We all love Lisa and want to help her in any way possible. We can’t take away her emotional pain right now, but can help with the financial aspects of such a sudden loss.
To say Lisa is the custodian does not fully tell what Lisa does for Menchville High School. Yes, she keeps our school clean, but she does so much more. She is a school mom for so many of our students. Several years ago I taught a class of ninth graders who needed a little extra encouragement; Lisa saw this and jumped right in. She stopped by every single day to see how each child was doing. When one was struggling, she would give extra attention. She spent her own money to buy treats several times a month. Lisa went above and beyond and really became the reason those children succeeded in high school. Lisa is also a friend to so many of us. She always asks about our families, shares the latest health craze, or simply offers her special kind of friendship. Lisa is a hard worker who takes her job at Menchville seriously. She clearly takes pride in her job and her school family.
While her school family is important to her, we could never compete with her own family. Lisa’s beautiful daughters, LaLa and Ranae, mean the world to her. She took pride in being their mother. While I have not taught Ranae yet, I did teach LaLa. What a girl! Just saying her name still brings a smile to my face. She came in to the room with so much energy and a smile that would make your day better. LaLa fit her name perfectly. She was one of those people who did not need a last name. When you heard the name LaLa, you knew there could be only one. LaLa was so full of life and energy and always had perfect hair and nails!
I told Lisa this morning that LaLa could not have had a better mother. Lisa has dedicated her entire life to her two girls. Lisa and Ranae will need all of the love and prayers that we can send their way!
