Hi Jamie and John here. We are participating in a Charity Cycle around Arran which covers 57 miles. This is in aid of 3 very worthwhile causes that are very close to our hearts. We are hoping to reach a target of £1000. £500 will go to the sponsors of the cycle, who are Chest, Heart and Stroke and the remainder will be split between the Neonatal Units in Wishaw General Hospital and Glasgow Childrens Hospital.
Chest, Heart and Stroke help support people and families who are living with any of these conditions. Those who know me, will be aware that my mum took seriously ill recently after suffering a cardiac arrest. This was a very tough time for my family and I, as at times we didnt think she would make it through. However the emergency care she received and her fight to survive has resulted in her making a slow recovery. There is still some way to go but we are seeing gradual improvements every day.
This charity also represents another very special woman in our life's. Just over a year ago, we lost our Anne, John's mum, who suffered a sudden stroke and was unable to recover. This has left a massive hole in our family, she is missed everyday and will always be remembered.
Finally we move onto the Neonatal units. These units look after babies that are very sick or born into this world prematurely. The care these babies receive is unbelievable and the staff who look after them are very special. We have our own superhero in our wee Cal Miller. John's grandson and my godson. Cal was born premature in Wishaw and had to be transferred to Glasgow on Christmas Day to have major surgery. This was a worrying time for all the family but we were blown away by the care, support, experience and dedication shown by staff. Cal is making fantastic progress and it is a delight to watch him grow into such a happy and healthy wee boy. He brings us all so much joy.
Over the years we have seen first hand the difference these units have made to family and friends. Katie and Reece, were brought into this world, weighing just 1lb and are now healthy young adults.
This is what will give us the drive and determination to complete this charity cycle, in appreciation and memory of all of the above.
Any donations, however big our small will be greatly appreciated.
