The Rise of Child Abuse
They say that children are the future—the people our children grow into will shape our society for years to come. If that's the case, then we should be doing everything we can to preserve the future, which means battling the growing issue of child abuse. It's estimated that at least 1 in 7 children were abused or neglected in just the past year; these cases contribute to depression, crime and more abuse down the line. Child abuse cases have only increased in the past year due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to higher levels of stress and more parents staying home in vulnerable households.
COVID-19 has also made it more difficult for social workers, law enforcement and agencies designed to protect children to do their jobs. On a regular day, child welfare groups face a myriad of challenges, from time limits and case overloads to high staff turnover rates and lack of access to communities. Once you factor in quarantine and social distancing requirements, the job becomes even more difficult.
For most of us, preventing child abuse isn't in our job descriptions. However, that doesn't mean we shouldn't be making an effort to help vulnerable children through child abuse prevention. So, how can you get involved?
Early Identification Technology
i-Guardian (www.i-guardian.org ) is a non-profit organization that uses technology for child abuse prevention. Using artificial intelligence, we conduct predictive analytics to determine the likelihood of abuse cases and get ahead of the problem before it starts. We also make child abuse data more accessible across government agencies, advocacy groups, law enforcement and healthcare systems, which enables these essential groups to monitor and address cases in real-time. All data is secured through a blockchain system, which deters cyber-threats by mandating digital keys to access information called SHIELD (Search Hub for Innocents and Endangered Lives Data).
Considering that 20-30% of child abuse cases are missed by hospitals, it's safe to say that tackling child abuse is no simple feat. Our technology wouldn't be possible without the support of passionate people that want to do their part to protect vulnerable children—every dollar makes a difference in the lives of children. Show your support by donating to our cause and taking a stand against child abuse.
