They say that children are the future—the people our children grow into will shape our society for years to come. If that's the case, then we should be doing everything we can to preserve the future, which means battling the growing issue of child abuse. It's estimated that at least 1 in 7 children were abused or neglected in just the past year; these cases contribute to depression, crime and more abuse down the line. Child abuse cases have only increased in the past year due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to higher levels of stress and more parents staying home in vulnerable households.



COVID-19 has also made it more difficult for social workers, law enforcement and agencies designed to protect children to do their jobs. On a regular day, child welfare groups face a myriad of challenges, from time limits and case overloads to high staff turnover rates and lack of access to communities. Once you factor in quarantine and social distancing requirements, the job becomes even more difficult.
