Around the World in 7 Days Against Covid-19

Donation protected
Rugby & Armed Forces Family, Supporters, Players, Clubs challenge to virtually go  'Around the world in 7 days' –  25,000 Miles under our own steam - Raising money for NHS Charities, Military Charities & Charities who work through Rugby. #ATW7

We will Walk, Run, Cycle, Row, Swim. Even skateboard! from 1300hrs 19 May 20 until 1300 hrs 26 May 20 - Anything under own steam without an engine! As we are based and deployed all around the world, we thought we’d go around the World! Can we do it more than once? or Can you?

At a time when many of us are at home wondering what we can do during this quarantine and whatever the future has to hold!
As the RAF Police Rugby Team, what we do know is there are some pretty extraordinary people doing some pretty extraordinary things at the moment in the fight against Covid-19.
We have also seen the huge impact on charities around the world who are still working as hard as possible to support people despite a sharp drop in income.

As the Flying Pigs Rugby Team, we wanted to do something to show how much we appreciate them, while financially supporting these amazing causes so that we can help them continue the incredible work they are doing, not just during this pandemic, but so that they come through the other side!

We have chosen a number of organisations to raise funds for, each one being an organisation that has touched one of us, affected one of us or helped one of us. Some of us are directly working in the battle against Covid-19 and have seen first hand the dreadful effect of the virus, be it from losing friends & family, partners on the frontline of the NHS or witnessing the toil it has taken on people and organisations.

We want to show that even in a time where you may feel discouraged and helpless there is always something you can do to help others.

We will do the challenge whilst adhering to social distancing restrictions; be it a run, walk or bike ride in our allotted exercise time, a run around the garden, a walk around the house, a row in the front room, on a scooter or the treadmill in the spare room; anything where we are propelling ourselves without the use of an engine!

We want you to join in as well and help some amazing causes during these unprecedented times!

Join our Team or Start Your own whilst raising money for some amazing causes or maybe you can't but want to support and you can by donating!

The goal is 7 days but if it takes a little longer we will keep going until we get around the world!

Let's see  Who can go the furthest? Who can go the quickest?

You can post your mileage here: www.strava.com/clubs/atw7 or Email us – [email redacted]

We have chosen these core organisations to raise funds for; some large national charities and campaigns; some smaller projects, but all either working directly in support of the Covid-19 effort or affected by the crisis:

NHS Charities Together – A national appeal is live now that acknowledges and supports NHS staff and volunteers caring for COVID-19 patients. It has been put together in liaison with NHS England and national bodies, member NHS charities and national giving platforms.
NHS Charities Together is a collective experience representing, supporting and championing the work of the NHS’ official charities. NHS Charities give £1million a day to the NHS, providing vital funds to help the NHS do more.

Atlas Foundation - The Atlas Foundation exists to help deprived children work towards a better future through rugby communities and initiatives. It is a launchpad for good and provides a platform that funds international projects that have a tangible impact on the daily lives of deprived young people. Through feeding and education programmes and a large number of rugby initiatives, The Atlas Foundation provides safety, education, food, sport, guidance and community to thousands of children across five continents. Founded & led by Rugby World Cup Champion Jason Leonard OBE, The Atlas Foundation’s work is led by the core rugby values of Integrity, Hard Work and Respect, and the Atlas Foundation is committed to getting practical help directly to those who need it.

Rugby For Heroes -
Rugby for Heroes works with the rugby community to raise funds and awareness for military personnel who are making the transition to civilian life. We are committed to providing financial and personal support, to help individuals overcome the many challenges that this transition presents.

RAF Benevolent Fund - The RAF Benevolent Fund is the RAF's leading welfare charity with a proud tradition of looking after its own.  They are there for all serving and former members of the RAF as well as their partners and dependent children.

Scotty’s Little Soldiers
- Scotty’s Little Soldiers is a national charity dedicated to supporting children and young people who have lost a parent who served in the British Armed Forces.
Inspired by the experience of Army widow Nikki Scott, following the death of her husband Cpl Lee Scott in Afghanistan in 2009, the charity provides assistance to hundreds of bereaved British Forces children around the UK. Support offered to the children includes access to professional bereavement counselling, fun activities such as holiday breaks and group events, gifts at important times of the year and personal development assistance through educational grants.
