Arna's Operation

Arna is 24 yrs old and studying primary teaching at Newcastle University. About 18 months she was diagnosed with a tumour on her pituitary gland. It was pressing on her optic nerve and causing problems with her eye sight. She was booked in for urgent surgery but as it was Christmas time there was a wait of a few weeks. She was given medication which only works in 20% of people but miraculously it shrank her tumour by half in only a few weeks. Over the last 12mths it has been controlled with the unpleasant injections and medication. Unfortunately the last MRI showed the tumour is growing back and is dangerously close to her optic nerve again.
She has to have it removed and the operation is scheduled for 6th July. The operation is serious due to the importance of the pituitary gland and the risk of damaging it. The skill of the neurosurgeon is critical and Arna has been advised that the most experienced neurosurgeon to perform this operation is in Adelaide. The operation needs to be performed in a private hospital as the wait for the public hospital is over a year. The operation will take 4-5hrs and 4 different specialists are involved. The cost of doctors and transport will be around $12,000. If you feel you would like to support Arna in achieving a good outcome your help would be very much appreciated. The money will be used primarily to pay the doctors.
We are holding a benefit night on the 23rd June at 5:00pm at Adamstown Bowling Club. Everyone is invited. We have music, a comedian, lots of prizes, great food and an auction. The benefit night will hopefully raise the other $5,000.
