Horses need care during Army duty

Donation protected
We rescued four horses from a nearby ranch several years ago.  They have an uncertain future and need your help.

This summer I have to attend a military mission. I will not be around to look after them for at least six weeks. The cost for training the horses will be more than what I make while on Military duty. I need some help to save these horses. If I can't get them trained then I will not be able to transport and board them.  Without training the destiny for the horses will likely be in jeapordy because I can not maintain the status quo for them any longer.

Cheyenne, Athena, Ginger, and Misty are very sweet and gentle beings.   They are well cared for as much as possible for being completely untrained.  They have abundant pasture and good water. They enjoy long walks, playing, and going down to the pond to visit and chat over the fence with the neighbor's horses.  They like to follow me around and are very curious about what I am up to.

They have never been seen by a veterinarian.   A horse needs to be halter trained for the doc to see them.  If something were to happen to one of them there would be nothing that I could do to help.

I am alone at the ranch and in the future will not be able to be here as much to provide in the same way for them. During the winter months the horses need to be fed hay everyday when there is snow on the ground and every other day if there is no snow.   I am expecting to spend far less time here in New Mexico this coming winter.  If the horses were trained I could send them to a facility to be boarded for 4-5 months.  Right now there is no way to transport the horses because they are not trained.

What will happen if I can not get the horses trained?  I have very few options.  The demand for untrained six year old horses is virtually none.  I am afraid that I would have to pay someone to take them to one of the less reputable horse trading outfits.  It turns out that here in New Mexico there are some greedy inhumane people that take unwanted horses out of the country to Mexico for slaughter.  I do not have the industry expertise to distinguish between who the good horse traders and the scum.  I fear that their future will be grim if they do not get trained.

The benefits of having them trained:
-  They can get veterinarian care
-  They can be boarded during the winter
-  They can remain on the ranch that they love
-  They will be safe when I am not available

- If something changes and we need to find a new home we will be able to find a good one.

The risks of maintaining the status quo:
-  They are vulnerable to illness
-  They will eventually need to find a new home
-  They could end up being destroyed.

The cost for training each horse is $750 / month.  Then there are additional costs related to transportation and feed.

Prizes Available to you for giving!!!

For $50 = a Do Something Good tee shirt (yes those are mannequins in the pictures)
For $200 = a trail ride for two people with these horses through the beautiful Pecos Wilderness, which is only 10 miles away from the ranch.  (summer of 2017)
