Army Strong - Blake Fights Cancer Again

Please take a moment to read about Blake's journey and donate to help him and his family get through round 2. Blake’s cancer has returned and he's ready to fight - surgery is just around the corner.

My brother, Blake, is an Army Vet who served in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and upon coming home joined the army reserves. He had just obtained his bachelor’s degree and was re-enlisting in the Army as an officer when he suffered 2 seizures. Sadly, like many of our veterans who were exposed to the Burn Pits, Blake developed cancer. An MRI revealed that Blake had a brain tumor and he had surgery to have it removed. After surgery, Blake's ability to speak did not coming back as hoped. After an entire year of therapy and effort, Blake was mostly able to regain his speech.

Tough Mudder celebrating 1 year cancer free.

While his speech never recovered completely, and despite having seizures due to scarring, Blake looked for work to help provide for his family. The Department of Corrections at Goose Creek Correctional Center hired Blake and despite the physical setbacks, Blake applied himself and received his certification for Time and Accounting for Criminal Justice Technician II. MRIs were performed every 6 months to monitor his progress and for 3 years, he was cancer-free.

Recently, Blake began experiencing severe headaches again, his speech started to slur, and his memory was fading fast. The most recent MRI revealed that he had developed a new tumor and that after surgery, he would require chemotherapy and radiation treatments. He is scheduled to have surgery once again during the first week of March. We aren’t sure how long it will take for Blake to recover from this second surgery, and to say this is a hard blow for Blake and his family after all the progress that’s been made these last 3 years is an understatement, but Blake’s courage and determination to beat cancer continue to inspire us every day. His wife and son will be trying to cover the bills again, but they are falling short on their rent and utilities. Until Blake gets approved for disability, they are in dire need of assistance.

Funds will go directly to help cover any living and medical expenses while Christy takes time off to care for Blake.
