Armstrong Needs ACL Surgery and More!

Tax deductible
We rescued Armstrong on his last day, when he was in danger of euthanasia at BARC in Houston TX. A wonderful foster contacted us and said she would like to foster Armstrong. That was what we needed to hear! With only minutes to spare, we are so very thankful we were able to save this sweet, gentle, loving dog.

At only about two years old, Armstrong has his whole life ahead of him. In his foster home, he showed a persistent limp in his left hind leg. We got him to the vet for x-rays. Poor Armstrong has more than one problem! The vet found that leg had been broken in the past, and had healed on its own and out of alignment. As a result, it put more pressure when he walked, and he not only has a torn ACL, but also a torn meniscus.

Armstrong needs specialty care. We're setting up a consultation with an orthopedist, and once that is done we will post the estimate. This kind of surgery reliably costs upwards of $3500, even with a generous rescue discount.

The cost is high and the recovery long and hard on the dog, but our Armstrong is so so so worth it! This boy wins the heart of every single person he meets. He loves other dogs, has met very young children and has been just fine with them, and even seems ok with cats. Our Armstrong is truly a gem. Once he has his surgery and recovers, the family that adopts him will have an absolutely terrific family member and will be very lucky indeed.

The cost for the x-rays was $382.96 which included a 10% rescue discount.
We don't yet have estimates for the ACL/meniscus surgeries, but anticipate it to be at least $2500.
We don't have an estimate yet for the cryptorchid neuter surgery, but anticipate it will cost at least $700.
Additionally, there will be costs associated with follow-up care post-surgeries.

In addition to his other medical woes, Armstrong is cryptorchid - he has one testicle that didn't descend, and is floating around somewhere in his abdomen. When he has neuter surgery - which is usually pretty standard, simple surgery - he will need to have exploratory surgery so they can find the 2nd testicle. This poor dog!

Our rescue - All About the Dogs Rescue - is a very small and new, but also very dedicated group of rescuers. We are determined to give Armstrong the great care he needs and deserves. In order to do that, we need all of you to help. We're only a little over 1 year old and do not have a huge base of followers, supporters, and donors. We are an independent rescue, not affiliated with any other organization. We have no corporate funding. In order to do what we do, we depend 100% on the generosity of donors and animal lovers like you.

Please help us help Armstrong! This handsome young dog has his whole life ahead of him. Together we can make sure that life is a healthy, happy one!
