Armstead Family New Car Fund

Old North End and Colorado Springs communities, we need your help!

On March 13th, the bomb cyclone's hurricane force winds ripped a massive Siberian Elm from its roots, crashing the tree into (and totaling) Jessica Armstead's vehicle. Jessica is our Old North End neighbor, currently residing at a "Partners in Housing" home in our neighborhood. Partners in Housing provides mothers with hope and opportunity to achieve self-sufficiency through supportive services and one-year transitional housing. She is a devoted and hard-working single mother who works as a SPED assistant at Freedom Elementary.  It's vital for her to have reliable transportation so she can keep her work commitments and take care of her family.

The tree was located in the parkway between the sidewalk and the road and was owned by the city. Despite records showing the tree was in "fair" shape, many neighbors have reported and complained about the dying tree in the past, to no action by the city government. Currently, the city will accept no responsibility for the damage to Jessica's car because the tree was not marked for removal prior to the storm.

There are no comprehensive insurance policies in place that will help replace Jessica's car - it is a total loss.  We believe in our ONE community and have the confidence we can come together to raise the funds to help our neighbor get back on her feet (and back on the road). Please help us raise $8000 to give Jessica the ability to purchase a reliable and safe vehicle. Thank you for your generosity!
