Armand attend INHSU and present his poster

My name is Louise and I am fundraising for Armand to attend the International Network of Health and Hepatitis in Substance Users (INHSU) network conference in Geneva, Switzerland in October.

I mentored Armand in his community scholarship request. Sadly, INHSU had an overwhelming number of applications this year and Armand was unsuccessful. I felt privileged to come alongside him and also supported him to put in an abstract.

Armand has been successful in his conference abstract and has a poster to present at the conference, however, sadly, without financial support he will be unable to attend.

Armand lives in Burundi, which is the poorest country in the world. He is currently the Medical Manager for the Burundi Association of people who used drugs (BAPUD). He is in charge of public health for people who use drug users who are members of the community led organization.

People with Hep C in Burundi cannot easily access treatment and it is very expensive. They do not have needle exchange programs. whilst I was mentoring him, several of his friends got arrested and sent to prison. He works in very unstable territory. It was really humbling to see what they are able to do with such little resources and just how privileged we are in England. If Armand can get to the conference I have absolutely no doubt he will take the learning back to his country and lobby for better rights for people who use drugs, and / or who need Hep C treatment.

The humility, passion and commitment he shows in the work is phenomenal.
