Have you ever heard of Multisystem Inflamatory Syndrome in Children? Well we hadn't heard of it either until my friend's daughter, Mackenzie Ogle, came down with it almost 3 weeks ago. It is a condition where different body parts can become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs. It is not yet know what causes MIS-C, although many children with MIS-C had the virus that causes COVID-19, or had been around someone with COVID-19. MIS-C can be serious, even deadly, but most children who were diagnosed with this condition have gotten better with medical care.
Mackenzie received 8 days of medical support at Johns Hopkins, 5 days in ICU and 3 days in pediatrics unit. It was so hard on her, hard on her family both physically, emotionally and financially.
We opened this go fund me account to provide financial support for the family. With their high deductible not met yet, the medical bills will start coming in soon. Maribeth hasn't been able to work because she and Jason spent every day and night with Mackenzie. And prior to Mackenzies illness, Maribeth had covid and subsequently pneumonia. It's been a hard road, and will be harder once the medical bills start coming in.
