Arlo’s Wish

This GoFundMe is on behalf of Arlo Bird, who was diagnosed with Anaplastic Ependymoma in 2019. He underwent 3 brain surgeries, inpatient chemotherapy in 2019, and proton radiation in 2020.

During a routine scan on 8/10/22, his parents, Sean and Ericka Bird, were informed that the cancer has spread to multiple new areas of the brain.

Estimating the amount of time left is difficult with Arlo’s particular diagnosis. Ranges could be as little as 6 months to 18 months (or a bit longer in extremely lucky cases). They also do not know how long until the symptoms of his tumors become an obstacle to making memories with his family.

What do you do with that information?

The Bird family has decided to make as many memories as they can and they need help to make this wish come true. With a recent job change, Sean is not able to take paid family leave to spend the most time with Arlo, so part of the finances will supplement the Bird’s income and allow them to complete a “bucket list” with Arlo’s limited symptom-free time remaining. They will be working with CNY Make-A-Wish, but have been informed that trips are very backed up and have been urged to “wish” for a more tangible alternative.

With the generosity of previous GoFundMe donations, they paid for chemotherapy treatment, radiation in Boston, food and lodging, hospital food deliveries, house downsizing, and accommodations, making it possible for Ericka to stay home with Arlo.
