Hello! I’m Arlo, I’m a 23 year old trans man. I was diagnosed with gender dysphoria in 2023 and have since started taking testosterone. However, I am still desperate to have top surgery. This will allow me to live in the world the way I want to, and feel confident and comfortable in my own skin. Every day, I wear a compression binder on my chest. This helps with the dysphoria I experience, but unfortunately, this isn’t a long-term solution. I am a drama facilitator, so my day to day consists of movement, and exercising in a binder is uncomfortable, painful and can be dangerous. Wearing a compression binder every day can cause multiple health complications in the long run, therefore I need to be working towards a solution. For me, getting Top Surgery (double mastectomy) would mean being able to live as my authentic self, without experiencing dysphoria and physical pain from binding. It’s something I think about every day, but it is also something that can cost up to £10,000 for the initial assessments and procedure.
