Arkalohori Earthquake
Donation protected
On Monday 27th September 2021, the town of Arkalochori, located in the Heraklion district of Crete, stood at the epicentre of a 6.0-magnitude earthquake that shook the entire island.
A man in the town tragically died while several other people were injured.
Home to many old buildings, Arkalochori was devastated by the earthquake, leaving houses, churches, and businesses damaged or in total ruin. The town has been evacuated due to structural concerns, and 2,500 tents have already been put up to accommodate those for whom return to their homes is no longer possible.
Damages caused by the earthquake have been severe for Arkalochori and its residents. And we are looking to reach a goal of raising £50,000 to help clean the streets that are now lined with rubble, repair many of the damaged buildings, and provide provisions and shelter to those in need.
We will update this page to disclose where the funds are to be distributed once it has been decided with the local authorities and with those managing relief efforts.
Aid for Arkalochori is needed now. So please assist us to help both those suffering and the rebuild of this historic town.
Thank you.
