Ariel’s Ectopic Pregnancy
Due to a missed ectopic pregnancy diagnosis, Ariel suffered a ruptured fallopian tube which resulted in massive internal bleeding, long-term nerve damage, and trauma that has resulted in a PTSD diagnosis.
The hospital and all of the extra services finally sent us the bills which total nearly $100,000.
She was rushed to the hospital on Saturday, July 23rd, 2022, and it was soon discovered that she was bleeding internally.
She was immediately taken into the operating room where the full severity of the damage was discovered. She had already lost nearly two liters of blood inside her abdomen and was suffering extreme pain. During this emergency surgery, her heart stopped, but the present anesthesiologist was able to revive her. Thankfully, she had already been intubated and oxygen was flowing. After this scare, they continued with the procedure, but had to be more directly invasive than originally planned, due to the discovery of the severe blood loss. In the end, thankfully, the operation was successful. However, as a result of these events, we are told that it will no longer be safe for us to attempt to have children naturally. Ariel has unfortunately lost one of her ovaries and the discovery of existing fibroids has made further pregnancy an impossibility, according to the surgeon and multiple other hospital staff.
Ariel spent three days in the ICU and one in general care. She has received mass blood transfusion, as well as pain medication, and nearly hourly visits from hospital staff— all of whom have been incredible to work with. We are so thankful for their care and compassion throughout this process and would not have picked a different place to have her cared for. We were cared for at St. Charles in Bend, OR.
Unfortunately, these types of incidents do come with a cost. From the ambulance ride, to the surgery, and time spent after in the ICU, it will all have to be footed by us. We were married in June and have been in the process of changing her name that we may enroll in insurance together, but were not able to before this unforeseen incident occurred. We especially wanted to do this once we knew she was pregnant.
The love of my life will live with a permanent scar and reminder of what has happened. And the emotional trauma will far surpass that of the body. We are eternally grateful of any and all contributions!
Thank you,
Taylor and Ariel Welsh
