Ariel is a 2 year old girl, mountain city native who had had been in an accident Friday March 15th. She was playing outside with one of her brothers yesterday afternoon on the slide behind their home, and was hit on the right side of her head with a stray bullet from somewhere in the wooded area of laurel.  Her brother went to get her father, and Ariel had walked from the slide to the front steps and then collapsed. Her father got her in the vehicle and went straight to Johnson County EMS where they took it from there. She was flown to Johnson City Medical Center and then Knoxville Children's Hospital. As of Saturday morning, It was still in there, and it has caused extensive damage to the back of her brain. Saturday they kept her sedated, and asked for no stimulation or noise to try and help the swelling in her brain stay down. It stayed low Saturday. She kept trying to wake herself up, her pupils we're dilating and she was responding to pain, and touch; which is a good thing. They let her rest maintaing the swelling and her vitals. They scheduled a CT for Sunday morning.

It showed that a piece of the bullet did hit the right back side of her head, fractured and penetrated her. When that happened it severed an artery causing extensive damage. She ended up having a stroke, and that being said she has no function or blood flow to the trama area. They are trying to keep vitals maintained and swelling down, but the swelling and pressure in her head has went very very high. They were trying to keep it down by medicine, and other ways to avoid any kind of surgery as of now, because of the trama, but it went to a point where surgery is inevitable. They just took her down into a 2 or more hour surgery to place a drain in the functioning side of her brain, and removing a piece of her skull on the right side to subside pressure. Are worries with that are bleeding, and how she reacts in that surgery.  That's where we are at now. Will update as soon as I know more. Your prayers, calls, and outpours to my family have been absolutely amazing. Please keep them coming. She has already proved she's so strong and we have many plans for that little girl, so we have plenty of faith that the Lord is going to work in his way. Again thank y'all so much.

This is Ariels Aunt, Stephanie, her mother and father have of course decided to stay with her.  Her two younger brothers are coming home with their grandparents which is about 3 hours away from the hospital. They are currently staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Ariels medical expenses are paid, but there is travel expenses, food expenses and Ariels mom and dad are now out of work until they can take their little girl home with them.  Any help toward that family would be a great blessing. We again appreciate all the phone calls, prayers and anything else anyone can do.

For we walk by faith, not by sight.
