Argin’s hospital bills after brain surgery
Donation protected
I will never understand how where you were born geographically, at no choice of your own but complete utter luck affect your basic human right of being able to access lifesaving healthcare. My nephew in the Philippines had a significant fall and as a result suffered an EDH-fatal head injury.
Being a neurosurgical nurse most of my nursing career and having these lifesaving resources at my fingertips, I’m so frustrated at how unfair this is for a young boy who required urgent lifesaving brain surgery.
After getting one of our doctor’s recommendation here (as no one could properly read the CT there and that it would take 3days for formal results cause it has to be sent to the city) we rushed him to the closest city 3hours away via ambulance- there’s no RFDS there. Only to be waiting 10hours to see a neurosurgeon cause they arrived late at night and by the time he was reviewed in the morning they wanted him rushed to OT as recent imaging showed increase in bleed.
Then to be told the medical bills will probs cost up to $15k and they need $3k deposit to be able to book the surgery.
What do people with no acess to significant money there do, just succumbed to something that can easily be treated with surgery.
This world is unfair
Unfortunately, health care comes at a very expensive price in the Philippines especially specialised surgery. Before, they would even consider him for a craniotomy they asked my sister if they could afford
the surgery when the Neurosurgeons fee’s alone would be 250,000 pesos (about $7k).
Funds donated will go straight to my sister and her family to pay for their growing hospital bills.
Thank you all for your donations and kind words, he is one lucky little boy and I would hate to think how things could have ended up very differently if we weren’t able to put up the deposit for his surgery.
I have spoken to my sister and she has given me consent to share Argin’s story and pictures❤️
