Argelis' Summer at Harvard
Donation protected
Hello, everyone! My name is Argelis Minaya-Bravo, and I am a 16-year-old student at The U School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Recently, I found out that I was accepted into Harvard University’s Pre-College Summer Program. From the program's website , it is an “immersive, collaborative, transformative” program, where I’ll get the chance to work with peers from around the world in a supportive academic environment.
I was also overjoyed to hear that I was awarded a scholarship worth $3,000 from Harvard. This leaves me with $1,500 to pay to attend this summer. However, my family simply can’t make this happen at the moment. That’s why I’m reaching out to my extended network for support. I’m asking for your help in any amount that you are able to spare - it would mean the world to me.
For the last 3 years of my high school career, I’ve felt compelled to make the most out of every single opportunity that comes up. I don't only challenge myself academically but also intellectually, looking for different ways to grow as a person every day. As a freshman, I began my own nonprofit called Breaking Boundaries, which focuses on helping young children accept themselves and their own stories. I was guided through this process as a member of my school’s Dream Team, which is a program of The Future Project (if you click this link, you’ll probably see my face on the home page!).
Last school year, I was fortunate enough to get accepted into Partners of the Americas Youth Ambassadors Program , where I was able to take my organization abroad to the country of Colombia. While there, we expanded my workshops to young students living in South America. It was truly a life changing experience.

Back here at home, I’m currently one my school’s few “autonomous” students, an innovative group of the most independent workers at my high school. The U School is a new high school, and the staff always trying to find ways to make education better. I’m also a student co-teacher, where I help lead a class of ninth grade students with along with an educator. If a school event is going on, I’m probably helping out in some way too.

Through these few snapshots, I hope you’ve received at least a glimpse of the type of person that I am. As I expressed in my video, not only do I want to be an example to those around me, but I also have a strong desire to learn new things and prepare for college. I am so excited to be able to take intriguing courses this summer at Harvard. Thank you so much for making my dreams come true.
I'm asking for $2,000 to fully fund my summer experience, which includes:
$1,500 for full tuition payment (after my $3,000 scholarship)
$120 to cover the fees charged by Gofundme
$380 to cover transportation to and from Boston, and materials for classes once I'm there
