Ares, my best friend needs help.
(Please scroll down for English text.)

Ares, my best friend became very ill last week. He collapsed on the ground and became unresponsive. When I went to check on him, his chest was covered in tiny red spots. I immediately took him to my local veterinarian who advised me to go to the Emergency Animal Clinic. The first test showed that Ares had thrombocytopenia. This is a blood disorder. Platelets are things in the blood that are needed for clotting, i.e. to stop bleeding if there is an injury. The original test didn’t find any. (zero) which is strange. The doctors admitted him to do more tests to find out why. Due to the COVID-19 situation, I was allowed to enter the examination room with and he was taken by the medical staff and I have not seen him in over a week. The doctors at the Small Animal Clinc at the Freie Universität, Berlin said it could be from a tumor or an autoimmune deficiency that could be fatal. I have been given a few updates over the week that they determined that Ares is very sick and suffering from internal bleeding and a type of blood cancer.
Ares has been through so much. i’m sure he can beat this. Ares was given two blood transfusions as well as very strong medicine to suppress his immune system to allow him to produce platelets that will slow down the internal bleeding so that he can stabilize so the doctors can save his life. Ares has slowly began to respond to the medication and has begun the long road to recovery I miss him so much and can’t imagine him all alone in his hour of need without being able to hold him and whisper in his ear and tell him how much I love and reassure him that everything will be alright. For the past 11 years he has been by my side and it feels like a part of me has been amputated. Ares has a younger brother, Bromeus. They have been together for the last 10 years. Bromeus in one year younger than Ares. Bromeus doesn’t understand what is going on and has become very nervous. It is clear that he misses his big brother so much that it makes him just as sad as I am. The pandemic came as a surprise to everyone all over the world. My personal financial situation has been in jeopardy since the first found of lockdowns started. Health Care for animals in critical situations is extremely expensive. With your help, Ares will be able to receive the medical attention that he needs to make him strong enough to come home to Bromeus and I who miss him so much.
Dogs just like people rely on blood transfusions that can be life saving in emergency medical treatment. The animal blood bank reserves in Berlin are drastically low. The Small Animal Clinic in Berlin needs help to replenish the resources to ensure that they can continue to save the lives of other dogs in need just like they have been doing for Ares. The regulations for potential dogs to donate blood are very strict. If you or any dog owner you know could be a potential donor, check the following link to see if you and your dog could possibly save the lives of other dogs like Ares.

Ares needs your help. Anything you can do to assist in this matter will go directly to cover his immediate medical costs and treatment. Ares was admitted to the Small Animal Clinc at the Freie Universität, Berlin on 18.05.2021. The 24 hour medical care that Ares is receiving from a team of wonderful doctors and staff that have dedicated themselves to the health, safety and disease prevention of all animal in need will save his life. With your help, Ares will be able to come home again soon to his younger brother Bromeus and I who have been heartbroken since he has been gone.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to think about Ares and all of the innocent four legged members of Berlin who make life so much more enjoyable with their presence.
