My 6-year-old chihuahua mix suffered an injury that's caused him to not be able to walk. Today, we visited the emergency vet twice. Over the course of two days, he was not acting like himself. He is usually very playful and active but would not let me near his face without a yelp. I was concerned he had an ear infection and scheduled a regular vet visit. This morning, he was not able to get out of bed. Tito comes every morning with us in the car for school drop-off, and he was completely unable to physically get himself up. I rushed him to the emergency vet, and they examined him and determined it was a neck or back injury. We were prescribed a pain management plan to keep him comfortable. I brought him home, and he became increasingly more agitated, and his breathing was very concerning. He would not let me leave his side without crying for me, so I brought him back to the emergency vet. They re-examined him and came to the same conclusion, that he is likely suffering from a slipped disc in his neck and will need an MRI and a spinal surgery to remove the disc.
