ARE Exams Cost

Hey guys,

Most people that know me know that I have wanted to be an architect since I was a kid.   I have two undergraduate pre-professional degrees from two different colleges. I began my college career at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in Ohio right out of high school. Upon completing my junior year I found out that this college was not accredited in architecture. From there I decided my best option was to graduate from BGSU and apply to Kent State University (KSU) post undergraduate program.  While at Kent State I was working fulltime at walmart 32 hours plus a week and going to school full time just to pay bills and school materials but I still powered through and made it to senior year.
I  also experienced the lost of my twin brother two months before finals and also found out a week later after my brothers death that due to a .1 difference in gpa I did not get into graduate program there.  It also doesn't help that I was one of two african americans in the class.  I took the rest of the year off to regroup and was fortunate enough to get employed months later at a firm in Columbus.  But I knew I didn't hit my goal of getting a master's and eventually taking my licnesing exams.  So I decided to apply to boston Architectural College and got accepted in 2013.  A year after that I found out I was pregnant with twins which not only altered my life but finances.  I was working during the day, at school at night and being a full time mom the rest of the time.  People even told me I would never graduate since I am now a single mother with twin babies.  I used that for motivation and to show that no matter the obstacles we can still achieve out goals.  Just last May I graduated with my masters in architeture receiving a special award for my achievemnts and stood proud with my mom and twins in tow.  I then begin to start studying in September of 2016.

Due to some financial burdens of bills, trying to purchase a home, being a single mom with twins and also having to get a vehicle I had to put my exams on hold due to not being able to afford to consistently take the exams.  To become a licensed architect I have to pass 7 exams each exam being $210 a piece bringing the total to $1,470. It takes a lot asking for help but I also wanted to meet goals of being licensed by the end of the year and become a mentor and an ally to young professionals in the field of architecture by providing opportunities for them in the field.  Being licensed would change my life and also help me in my journey of giving back to my community and helping black and brown people to be encouraged to be in the field of design in every aspect sine we are still very much under represented.  I would be honored for any donation and guarantees that the money raised with go to a savings that in specifically for my exams.
