Ardour’s Life-Affirming Surgery Fund

Hello everyone, my name is Ardour. i am non-binary and my pronouns are they/them and it/its/itself.

I am uncomfortable to the MAX writing this but here I go…

I am in need of precisely $7700 for an ‘aggressive’ breast reduction surgery to reduce my chest size to a much more manageable A-cup.  I had my consult with the surgeon recently and to book in ASAP i need 10% of the funds up front. This cost is inclusive of follow-up appointments however aftercare and medication post-surgery is extra. The reason i have rounded the target up to $8000 is because I am in need of those things as well as more immediate support (psychologist appointments, medication, rent, food etc.).

I need this surgery lest i cease to exist on this planet. This is really crucial for my mental health as a young person who just wants to feel comfortable and like they belong in the world. It is ultimately a LIFE-affirming surgery.

I experience gender dysphoria around my chest size which makes it really difficult to feel connected and like i identify with my body. At the moment, it feels like I am living in some weird flesh prison and what I see in the mirror does not look like me at all. This is a really alien and jarring feeling. Gender Dysphoria makes it difficult to be mobile in the world & I find it hard to leave the house, as in public I am very self-conscious of the way my body is perceived. This situation has lead to me being isolated from my friendships and community. I hesitate to make plans with friends that I don’t know if I am able to commit to. 

I wear a binder every day however I cannot go on wearing a binder every day for life. Binders cause me uncomfortable sensory issues, especially in summer. Plus, they make my breathing feel restricted which isn’t nice and they don’t work THAT well for me anyways.

Non-binary looks different for everyone as it is an attempt to express a more intangible concept of gender outside the two ‘main’ categories of male and female. This is what it looks like for me.
