Arctic Circle Challenge - Velindre Cancer Centre
Donation protected
The Challenge
It's happening. 100km across the Arctic Circle over just 5 days.
On April 1st I'm flying out to Kiruna, North Sweden, to begin an unsupported snow shoe trek, alongside 15 others. We'll be on dry rations, up to -30 degree temperatures, and coping with snoring team-mates!
Whilst it's not remotely going to be a walk in the park (I'll share photos of the blisters and chafing) over the 100km I'll cross frozen lakes, skirt ancient glaciers, pass by the villages of the indigenous Sami people, witness some of the most stunning scenery on the planet, and hopefully get a glimpse of the Northern Lights, whilst raising much needed funds.
Fundraising
I am fundraising for Velindre Cancer Center, which is well known for providing high quality radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments, care and support to cancer patients. However, each year Velindre also spends over a million pounds on funding ground breaking research programmes into many areas of cancer.
Why This?
My best friend and brother Owain let me know about the challenge, and I was fortunate enough to be one of the last picked for the team this year. My late Nana Avril recieved care and treatment at Velindre Cancer Centre many years ago, and I was instantly fixated on the idea of taking part, come hell or high water (or snow).
