Many people have been following my Grandsons Archie’s story and have reached out to ask how they can help my son Jake and his Wife Sam during Their Son Illness. Archie was diagnosed in July 2024; with Infantile spasms he was only 7 weeks old. Infantile spasms are a rare form of epilepsy that affect 1 in 5000 children most commonly between ages 3-7 months. His brain activity also indicated electro graphic seizures (seizures with no visible symptoms) and focal seizures (seizures that occur on one side of the brain). He continues to fight with seizures today, despite trials on several different medications. The future is unclear at this time, as the neurologist has not found a medication that has effectively controlled the seizures at this point. And we continue to wait for the much-needed MRI to help see what is going on in his brain. Drs initially wanted to wait till two yrs old due to brain development, but this may happen sooner now that he is not responding to medications. Next step is medications that insurances don’t like to cover. Even surgical intervention is not off the table. This illness has led to a lot of emotions, loss of work for both Sam and Jake, and now possibility of a medical leave of absence for mom so one of them is with him at all times, and of course large medical bills.

As Archies Grandma I would move mountains for him, if I could. It is very difficult to sit back and do nothing, So I hope to raise some money for his family to help lighten the financial load that comes with loving your child not only in the good times, but more so through the difficult times. I want my son and daughter in law to be able to focus on caring for their son.
