Be Part of Archer's Fearless Fight

Archer is the sweetest, chunkiest baby you will ever meet and his parent’s rainbow baby. If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting him, his giggles and smiles have likely left a lasting impression. His parents are incredibly kind and generous, always willing to help others, even strangers. His dad is a disabled combat veteran and current registered nurse and his desire to serve his community and his country has always been unwaivering. Despite facing numerous challenges with kindness and resilience, nothing could have prepared them for this current ordeal. Our hearts break for what they are enduring and even as we are doing our best to help, but they need more assistance.

On Saturday, Archer suddenly became ill and his condition deteriorated rapidly. After being taken to the hospital, he was diagnosed with laryngitis and bronchitis, and a viral panel was performed. Although they brought him home, his condition worsened—his breathing became labored and fast, and he developed a high fever that wouldn’t break with medication. They rushed back to the hospital and learned he tested positive for rhinovirus and parainfluenza 3. His health declined further upon arrival.

Initially, Archer was treated in the pediatric wing with oxygen through nasal cannula and nebulizing treatments, but these were ineffective. While in the pediatric wing and receiving these treatments, he still continued to crashed 3 times which poses a significant risk of a heart attack. This resulted in him needing to be moved to the pediatric ICU, where they lightly sedated him and used a BiPAP machine. Unfortunately, this also failed to stabilize him for long. Archer is currently fully sedated, medically paralyzed and intubated; with the potential need for a chest tube due to collapsing lungs. He is also on the verge of needing to be escalated to ECMO which is a machine that takes over heart and lung function. He has since developed additional symptoms of bronchiolitis, pulmonary edema and pulmonary hypertension as a result of the 2 viral infections. His condition may require transfer to a more specialized hospital farther from home and he is currently facing a minimum hospital stay of four weeks, assuming everything progresses ideally.

Doctors are perplexed; there is no clear reason why these interventions are failing, and his lab results do not match his severe physical symptoms and distress. His parents are enduring an unimaginable ordeal, struggling to balance care for their other children, hospital visits, and work responsibilities. Although their employers have offered job security, they cannot afford to continue unpaid leave, meaning Archer’s dad may soon need to return to work.

We are raising funds to help Archer’s family avoid financial distress, enabling his dad to stay by his side during this critical time. Your support can make a significant difference for them as they navigate this heartbreaking journey.
