Arabesque Dance Studio Pandemic Impact

Donation protected
The Arabesque Dance Studio was founded by Marcia Lachman 53 years ago as the very first dance studio in Howard County. Starting with classes in her basement and growing to a three room studio, The Arabesque Dance Studio has been a treasured Columbia staple for generations.

Although Miss Marcia passed away a couple years ago, her legacy in Howard County has continued thru the love of dance with her daughter, Ginger Freint and granddaughter, Liza Freint. These ladies have created not just a dance studio, but a family of dancers that grows Generation after Generation.

When the studio was forced to close it's doors in March due to the pandemic, Miss Ginger did not stop teaching. She and her staff continued with online virtual classes for their students, and even offered free Facebook Live classes to the entire community. Miss Ginger worked to ensure her students still got to dance, connect with their classmates and teachers and still feel the love they deserve. She held a safe costume distribution, and recital took on a new form virtually.  It may not have been the same busy spring that dancers are accustomed to, but it was filled with costumes, makeup, performances, glitter, excitement and love. Miss Ginger worked tirelessly to create memories for her dancers and families and the results have been astounding. Miss Ginger never stops dancing and never stops working to provide the absolute best for her dance studio family.

Like many businesses, the forced closures due to COVID-19 have hit Arabesque hard. With lost tuition, no spring recital and an uncertain summer session ahead, the studio has taken a hard hit financially. With the high cost of rent in Howard County, the studio is facing it's toughest times in these past 53 years and is in jeopardy of closing its doors. Miss Ginger has never turned her back on a child wanting to dance, whether they can afford it or not. She bends over backwards to help families, and it is our community's turn to help this beloved studio.

As a family who has danced for generations with Arabesque, we have seen first hand the impact this studio makes on children and the community as a whole.  Our goal is to raise $30,000, which would cover the studio's lease for the summer months while they try to rebuild the studio in the safest way possible. Miss Ginger, Miss Liza and the Arabesque family are a rarity in this world, and a true Howard County gem. Please help them thru this tough time, and help Miss Marcia's legacy live on in our community.
